In 2018, Otto and The Mutapa Calling released their debut album, Mvura Ichanaya. The title translates to “the rain shall fall” - a southern African metaphor for blessings to come.

The album includes traditional songs from southern Africa alongside original compositions by band leader, Otto Gumaelius. All songs were recorded using soprano, tenor and baritone marimbas with drumming, hosho and singing. Mbira dzavadzimu is included on track five, Hondo.
