  • St Giles Cripplegate Fore Street London, England, EC2Y 8DA United Kingdom (map)

For one night only, St. Giles Cripplegate will come to life with the joyous sounds of the southern African marimba.

Join the UK’s only southern African marimba band, Otto & The Mutapa Calling, for an unforgettable night of traditional marimba music from Zimbabwe, South Africa and Botswana. Immerse yourself in the colourful music, song, dance, and storytelling of southern Africa as the band takes you on a journey through the region's rich cultural tapestry - singing in a number of languages including Shona, Ndebele, Zulu, Xhosa and Setswana. The traditional songs the band performs are woven together with stories and explanations, making it a night of learning, celebration and connection.

Otto & The Mutapa Calling is a thrilling London-based marimba band playing energetic, joyful music from southern Africa, including traditional folk songs, original songs and popular southern African covers. The band’s set-up includes soprano, tenor and baritone marimbas with drumming and singing, and a taste of the mbira (African kalimba). The marimba band’s sound is full of energy and pulsating rhythms - and the band’s music shares the rich cultures, histories and stories of the people of southern Africa.
